WEBTEST (University of Waterloo)

http://fpg.uwaterloo.ca/WEBTEST/WEBTEST_intro.html

The WEBTEST project was initiated by the Faculty Projects Group at the University of Waterloo. The purpose of the project was to investigate the support of interactive testing/tutorial environments on the web. Work in this area has been done at the University of Waterloo primarily on DOS/Windows PCs and Macs. In using the web, portability and distributivity issues regarding these applications are less of a problem.

WEBTEST is for formative purposes and is essentially a test processor written in PERL. It will reside on web server(s) as a program accessible from web documents such as this one. WEBTEST requires a program file, written by a test/tutorial designer, as data that is interpreted to generate the test/tutorial environment.

WEBTEST can be used to create an interactive testing, tutorial or survey environment. The many features available for creating secure testing environments do not have to be used. This technology can be used as a secure means of testing students electronically (with automated marking and submission of results via email) or to simply give students access to review material electronically (which normally would be distributed on paper) in a controlled, self-paced learning environment.

The WEBTEST supports a number of core question types including:

  • Numerical question
  • Multiple choice
  • Multiple response
  • Free text entry
